Salary & Take-Home Pay Calculators

Your salary and your take-home pay are two different numbers. Between the two sit income tax, National Insurance, pension contributions and any student loan repayment. The calculators here help you work out exactly what you keep each month.
Salary and take-home pay
The salary calculator is the place to start. Enter your gross annual salary and it shows your income tax, National Insurance, pension and student loan deductions, then your net annual and monthly pay. If you want to see your payslip in detail, the payslip tool breaks it down line by line.
Hourly rate
If you're paid by the hour or you're comparing a salary with an hourly role, the hourly rate calculator converts between annual salary, hourly rate and weekly or monthly pay. This is also handy for freelancers setting a day rate.
Bonus, pay rise and overtime
A bonus is often taxed at your marginal rate, so it may not all be yours. The bonus tax calculator shows the tax and National Insurance on a bonus. The pay-rise calculator shows how much more you'll actually keep after a raise, and the overtime calculator works out pay for extra hours.
Comparing salaries
The salary comparison tool lets you put two salaries side by side, which is useful when you're weighing up job offers or a move to a different area or role.
What affects take-home pay
Beyond tax and NI, pension contributions reduce your take-home but build up your retirement pot. A student loan repayment kicks in once you earn above your plan's threshold. Both are worth including to get a realistic number.
Frequently asked questions
How is take-home pay calculated?
Take-home pay is your gross pay minus income tax, National Insurance and any other deductions such as pension or student loan, using the rules for the tax year selected.
Why does my actual payslip differ?
Your employer applies your tax code and any pension or salary-sacrifice arrangements. These can make your real figure differ slightly from a general estimate.
