UK VAT Calculators

Updated for tax year 2026/27 · Last reviewed 10 August 2026. Prepared using published HMRC and GOV.UK rules.

VAT is a tax on goods and services, and most UK businesses have to account for it at some point. These calculators let you add or remove VAT and check the other figures that depend on it — so you can quote, invoice and price with confidence.

Adding and removing VAT

The VAT calculator handles both directions. "Add VAT" works out the gross amount from a net price; "remove VAT" extracts the VAT from a price that already includes it. This is the tool you'll use most often when you're setting prices or checking an invoice.

VAT invoices

If you need to produce a VAT invoice, the VAT invoice calculator shows the net, VAT and gross totals you'll put on it. It's a quick way to make sure your figures are right before you send the invoice.

VAT margin and profit

For resellers and certain businesses, the flat-rate and margin schemes change how VAT is worked out. The VAT margin calculator and VAT profit calculator help you see the effect of VAT on your selling margin and the profit you actually keep.

VAT registration and thresholds

You only have to register for VAT once your taxable turnover passes the registration threshold, though you can register voluntarily below it. The guides explain how VAT works and what you need to know about charging, collecting and reclaiming it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current UK VAT rate?

The standard UK VAT rate is 20%. Reduced rates apply to some goods and services. The VAT calculator uses the rate you select, so check the rate that applies to what you're selling.

Do I need to register for VAT?

Registration is required once your taxable turnover exceeds the registration threshold. You can also register voluntarily if it helps you reclaim input VAT.
